An administrative law judge (ALJ) imposed a $3,085,293 penalty against a company for violating the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act as well as certain federal and state underground storage tank (UST) regulations. Specifically, the ALJ ruled that the company failed to maintain required leak detection and control equipment and to perform required leak detection activities for 72 USTs at 23 gasoline stations in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
